STAGE DESCRIPTION
At a whopping 232kim, this is the longest stage in this year's Tour. It includes no categorised climbs, and as such it offers little to break up the day. After this stage there are no more sprinters' stages until after the climbs of the Massif Central, so the fastmen will be looking for a win and some green jersey points. A long break is likely to go away but will be brought back with between with about 10-20kms to go leaving it to a sprint, just they way in which Mario Cipollini won after a big crash the last time the Tour visited Châteauroux in 1998.

STAGE FACTS
• This is the longest stage of this years Tour.
• It's one of only four stages over 200km long.
• In the last 20 years, the smallest number of stages over 200km was three, in 2002. The most was 13 in 1994.
• The longest stage for 20 years was 301km long in 1990.
• The last stage that finished in Châteauroux also started from Cholet.
