STAGE DESCRIPTION
This is the first real chance in this year's Tour for any overall contenders to show their hand. A short time trial around Cholet provides a good opportunity for time triallists to get their hands on the yellow jersey and allows the overall contenders to put down a marker.
STAGE FACTS
• This is the shortest time trial (not including prologues) since 1989. The longest was 139km in 1947, which Raymond Impanis won in 3-49-36.
• The longest time trial in recent history was 87.5km won by Stephen Roche in 1987.
• The Tour's first ever time trial was in 1934 which was 83km long and won by Antonin Magne.
• Other ridiculous time trials include a 153km team time trial in 1978 and five team time trials in the 1936 Tour.
